1st Place at the Ontario Championships for the Brantford Cheer Squad

  • WHEREAS raising and increasing the awareness of the basic Human Value of truth, right conduct, peace, love and non-violence, as well as all the multiple sub values like honesty, integrity, kindness and caring is important; and

    WHEREAS these values are inherent in all creeds, countries, cultures and communities, making these values truly Values without Borders; and

    WHEREAS reducing and even erasing the incidents of violence of all types in our communities and our City will bring peace and progress in all aspects and activities of the City; and

    WHEREAS unlike other walks, Walk for Values is not a fund-raiser, but a way to make the city richer and healthier by pledging our commitment to practice these human values, and be motivated to serve our community through volunteer work, or by donating blood or food for the needy; and

    WHEREAS Walk for Values is designed to raise the awareness of Human Values and to promote individual responsibility towards the collective future of Humanity, Walk for Values is a platform to educate people on the importance of practicing these five Human Values in daily life and the awareness it creates in the making of enlightened citizens for universal peace;

    NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT The Corporation of the City of Brantford hereby PROCLAIMS April 24, 2019 as “Human Values Day”.

  • WHEREAS impaired and distracted driving can result in injuries and deaths to motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists; and

    WHEREAS the health and well-being of all citizens are a direct result of increased awareness about the dangers of impaired and distracted driving; and

    WHEREAS 75% of fatalities on Ontario roads are caused by “The Big Four” being Distracted Driving, Impaired Driving, Aggressive Driving and Seatbelt Violations; and

    WHEREAS impaired and distracted driving is a serious, life-threatening practice that is preventable;

    NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT The Corporation of the City of Brantford hereby PROCLAIMS April 22nd to April 26th, 2019 as "Impaired and Distracted Driving Awareness Week".

  • WHEREAS the Brant Regional Association of Volunteer Administrators (BRAVA) wishes to bring recognition to, and encouragement of citizen participation in, National Volunteer Week (taking place in 2019 between April 7th to 13th); and

    WHEREAS Volunteer Canada has declared this year’s theme for National Volunteer Week “The Volunteer Factor – Lifting Communities”; and

    WHEREAS each individual with diverse circumstances, experiences and knowledge, bring strength, passion and connections to build capacity and cohesion in our community;

    NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council of The Corporation of the City of Brantford hereby PROCLAIMS the week of April 7-13, 2019 as "Volunteer Week" and celebrate the value of our community volunteers.

    1. THAT a Steering Committee BE CREATED to assist with the Northridge Golf Clubhouse Project; and
    2. THAT the Northridge Golf Clubhouse Project Steering Committee BE COMPRISED of Councillors Utley, Sless, Carpenter and Martin; and
    3. THAT the Terms of Reference for the Northridge Clubhouse Steering Committee, attached hereto and marked as Appendix “A”, BE APPROVED; and
    4. THAT Option 2 of the Northridge Golf Clubhouse conceptual design, attached hereto and marked as Appendix “B”, BE ADOPTED.
  • Motion to Waive the Rules

    THAT Sections 15.11.5 and 15.3.11 of Chapter 15 of the City of Brantford Municipal Code BE WAIVED in order to introduce the following resolution without prior Notice of Motion and without first having been previously considered by a Committee of the Whole or Standing Committee:

    WHEREAS the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) represents the interests of municipalities on policy and program matters that fall within federal jurisdiction; and

    WHEREAS FCM’s Board of Directors is comprised of elected municipal officials from all regions and sizes of communities to form a broad base of support and provide FCM with the prestige required to carry the municipal message to the federal government; and

    WHEREAS FCM’s Annual Conference and Trade Show will take place from May 30 to June 2, 2019, during which time the Annual General Meeting will be held and followed by the election of FCM’s Board of Directors;

    NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

    1. THAT the Council of The Corporation of the City of Brantford ENDORSE Councillor Cheryl Antoski to stand for election on FCM’s Board of Directors for the period starting in June 2019 and ending in June 2020; and
    2. THAT all costs associated with Councillor Antoski attending FCM’s Board of Directors meetings and Annual Conference, if elected, BE PAID by the City of Brantford and recorded separately from the Councillor’s regular Council expenses; and
    3. THAT a copy of this Resolution, along with the required Consent Form BE SUBMITTED prior to the deadline date.
  • Resolution

  • Motion to Waive the Rules

    WHEREAS providing appropriate containers for waste reduction and recycling is essential to managing litter and promoting recycling; and

    WHEREAS litter prevention and management is key to building community pride; and

    WHEREAS Brantford is actively improving its capacity to prevent litter and divert waste from landfill at public and community events; and

    WHEREAS Brantford’s Canada Day celebration attracts approx. 20,000 visitors each year and generates a significant amount of waste; and

    WHEREAS the waste audit conducted by EPAC at Brantford’s Canada Day 2018 revealed that over half of the waste generated at the Festival is recyclable material; and

    WHEREAS waste diversion is imperative as landfill capacity is limited and expensive to replace; and

    WHEREAS Brantford’s Canada Day is an ideal opportunity to engage the public in developing both literacy and capacity in good waste diversion practices; and

    WHEREAS Brantford does not currently have capacity to provide appropriate enhanced recycling for a festival the size of Brantford’s Canada Day; and

    WHEREAS there is no current operational funding for a more comprehensive, staff delivered  recycling program beyond the current service levels; and

    WHEREAS Busch Systems is a leading, Ontario based manufacturer of waste and recycling containers; and

    WHEREAS Busch Systems has offered to partner with Brantford to support waste diversion at Brantford’s Canada Day by providing staff support and use of their proprietary analytic software at no extra cost; and

    WHEREAS through this partnership, Busch Systems will supply 120 wire event containers (over $12,000 value) for Brantford’s Canada Day for a reduced cost to the city of $5,000.00; and

    WHEREAS this would provide Brantford with sufficient event waste and recycling containers for Canada Day and other Community festivals & events who have an interest in managing waste generated at the event; and

    WHEREAS the containers are interchangeable (can be used for any stream), durable, and reusable, and will provide sufficient capacity for 3 stream waste diversion supporting Brantford’s desire to develop a future organic waste diversion program; and

    WHEREAS this is a onetime opportunity for the city to significantly increase its capacity to supply waste diversion containers for Brantford’s Canada Day and other festivals at a significantly reduced cost; and

    WHEREAS this capacity is a necessary prerequisite to establishing future waste diversion requirements for other festivals in the City, which will significantly reduce the amount of waste going to landfill in Brantford;

    NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

    1. THAT $5,000 from the Council Priorities Reserve (RF0558) BE APPROVED for the purchase of 120 wire event containers from Busch Systems to support the enhanced, volunteer recycling initiative at Brantford’s Canada Day, which have a total value of $12,000.00; and
    2. THAT staff be directed to investigate the impact and costs of a staff delivered enhanced recycling and waste diversion program at public and community events and at City Parks and Facilities.

  • In keeping with Section 3.8 of Corporate-028 Policy (Appointments Policy), the following is to be read aloud at a televised meeting: 

    The City of the Brantford is currently seeking volunteers to serve on the following Committees:

    • Brownfields Community Advisory Committee
    • Control of Vicious Dogs Committee
    • Council Remuneration Citizen Review Committee
    • Cultural & Built Heritage Grant Program Advisory Committee
    • Economic Development Advisory Committee
    • Tourism Advisory Committee

    Interested citizens can find further information on these appointments, including recommended skill sets, mandates and application forms on the City’s website www.brantford.ca, in the City Clerk’s Office, Brantford City Hall during regular business hours, or by calling (519) 759-4150. 

    The deadline for submitting completed application forms to the City Clerk is 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2019. 

    City Council wishes to ensure that its Committees, Boards and Task Forces reflect the diverse nature of Brantford’s population and invites all residents to consider these opportunities.

  • WHEREAS on February 26, 2019, City Council appointed Councillor Carpenter to the Grand River Conservation Authority Board of Directors; and

    WHEREAS members appointed to the Grand River Conservation Authority Board of Directors receive an honorarium; and

    WHEREAS Section 1.F(b) of By-law 81-2014 (Council Honoraria By-law) requires additional benefits from any Board or Committee to be paid over or redirected to the City; and

    WHEREAS Section 1.F(c) of By-law 81-2014 allows the honorarium paid to be redirected to a specific City account, by way of a resolution adopted by a majority vote;

    NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

    1. THAT the honorarium for Councillor Carpenters’s appointment to the Grand River Conservation Authority BE REDIRECTED to Corporate Council Account 102101.43660; and
    2. THAT the total value of the 2019 honorarium BE DONATED to the Grand River Conservation Foundation to be allocated to the Water Festival in November 2019.
