Member Keith Paridy chaired the meeting in the absence of the Chair and Vice-Chair

The meeting was called to order and roll call was confirmed.

Present:  Taylor Edwards, Councillor Sullivan, Keith Paridy, David Kielstra, Derek Hewitt, Eric Meliton

Regrets: Councillor Samwell, Lee Lawrence, Gregory Kempa, Andy Straisfeld 

Absent: Kiana Ferreira

No declaration of pecuniary interest was made regarding items appearing on the agenda.

There were no presentations/delegations.

    THAT all items for consideration and consent BE APPROVED.

    The following items were discussed and carried accordingly: 

  • THAT Report 2025-58 “2025 GreenER Awards Promotional Campaign” BE RECEIVED.

    1. THAT Report 2025-57 “2025 Community Engagement and Events” BE RECEIVED; and
    2. THAT ESPAC members VOLUNTEER at the Mayor's Welcome Week BBQ and Scare in the Square events.

    1. THAT Report 2025-93 “2025 ESPAC Budget” BE RECEIVED; and
    2. THAT the budget BE ALLOCATED as follows;
      1. $1000 to use for the marketing of the Green ER awards, and
      2. the remaining budget of $4000.00 BE ALLOCATED to planting a mini forest and incorporating a tree give away; and
    3. THAT upon approval of City Council, the ESPAC budget BE INCREASED by an one-time addition of $5000.00 for the year of 2025.

    1. THAT Report 2025-56 “Home Energy Savings Guide” BE RECEIVED; and
    2. THAT the following comments from the Environmental and Sustainability Policy Advisory Committee regarding the Home Energy Savings Guide BE INCLUDED in the Home Energy Savings Guide:
      1. ensure that the guide is tailored to the City of Brantford; and
      2. produce the guide in a condensed or digital format; and
      3. included a seasonal checklist; and
      4. include transportation information; and
      5. include the use of case study information.

    1. THAT Report 2025-55 “Invasive Species Management Plan” BE RECEIVED; and
    2. THAT the following comments from the Environmental and Sustainability Policy Advisory Committee regarding the Invasive Species Management Plan BE INCLUDED in the Invasive Species Management Plan:
      1. best practices for households; and
      2. identification photos; and
      3. citizen reporting options.

    The following items were DEFERRED to the next meeting as quorum was lost at 6:30pm.


  • THAT Report 2025-76 “2025 Climate Action Implementation Plan” BE RECEIVED.

  • THAT the Environmental and Sustainability Policy Advisory Committee minutes from December 12, 2024 BE APPROVED.

There were no resolutions.

    1. THAT the position of committee member Kiana Ferreira on the Environmental and Sustainability Policy Advisory Committee BE DECLARED vacant in the accordance with Section 26.2.12 of Chapter 26 of the City of Brantford Municipal Code; and
    2. THAT the Appointments Committee BE REQUESTED to fill the vacant position.
